Younger and older patients should consider a Bone Density test if they have risk factors for bone loss, which can cause Osteoporosis. Risk factors include gender and race, lifestyle choices and genetics. Caucasian or Asian females of thin small body frames and a history of Osteoporosis are more at risk. Smoking, alcohol consumption, caffeine, lack of exercise and poor nutrition are major risk factors, as well as a diet low in bone building nutrients including Calcium, Magnesium and Boron.

Vein clinic

Sclerotherapy is an effective treatment for varicose veins which involves injecting a solution of medication directly into the vein. This causes the vein to scar, which forces blood to reroute through healthier veins. Some veins will first become darker before fading, others may disappear immediately.

Advance Medical Centre offers Sclerotherapy to treat varicose veins, spider veins and leg ulcers, by Specialist surgeon. Dr. Gideon van Wyk. The dangers of leaving Varicose veins untreated is swelling, leg ulcers, deep vein thrombosis, bleeding and infection.

This effective treatment is fully covered by Medical Aids and takes only 30 minutes. Special care needs to be taken after treatment to support healing. It takes about 3 weeks to 4 months for veins to recover, however patients don’t need much downtime. It is an out of hospital treatment in the Doctor’s rooms and patient’s can continue with daily tasks after the treatment, provided they take special care as per the information which will be provided by their treating doctor.

Diabetic clinic

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease that causes high blood sugar. The hormone insulin moves sugar from the blood into your cells to be stored or used for energy. With diabetes, your body either doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t effectively use the insulin it does make. Specialised supervised medical care is required to manage blood sugar levels. Diabetes can be a life threatening disease and patients are advised to revise their eating plan to a healthy low GI eating plan as advised by your doctor and dietitian.
